NURS G703 Theories in Health Care Systems 3 crs. This course provides an introduction to theories underlying the practice of nursing leadership and management in health care systems. The role of theory is explored related to the development of nursing knowledge and nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on developing skills to critically examine theories of leadership and health care management.

NURS G709 Legal & Ethical Issues in Health Care 3 crs. This course introduces students to legal and ethical issues affecting health care and nursing management responsibilities in an ever-changing health care industry. The influence of economic and sociopolitical factors on health care laws will be explored from the perspective of health care providers. The extent to which health care laws attempt to order relationships between providers, payers, and consumers will be examined. There is a focus on principles and theories of ethics as they relate to health care delivery, as well as health care administration. Emphasis will be placed on ethical/legal issues encountered in professional nursing practice. This course prepares graduates to appreciate the concepts and principles of ethical legal dilemmas and their application in practice.

NURS G711 Informatics 3 crs. This course is designed to provide in-depth knowledge of the implementation and use of nursing informatics in healthcare, the collection and use of information in decision support systems designed to support evidence-based practice, and the use of informatics in health care management. Regulatory standards and ethical and legal issues related to informatics are also examined.  

NURS G712 Nursing Financial Resources I 3 crs. This course explores the principles and practices of finance and the impact of reimbursement models and regulation in health care. Within this framework, content regarding finance and economics, analysis of financial statements, strategic financial planning and cost/benefit analysis are examined. Quantitative and qualitative approaches to decision making in the complex relationships among provider, payer, employer and client are addressed.

NURS G716 Health Care Quality & Safety 3 crs. This course explores the quality of care and safety of patients in today's health care environment. Tools, processes and methods required to effectively manage quality and safety in health care are analyzed. Reports from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) are reviewed and suggestions for improving quality care and safety of patient care are presented. 

NURS G724 Outcomes Measurement & Data Management 3 crs. This course focuses on the analysis and application of theory and skills needed to assess, plan, and evaluate the care of populations within health systems. The evaluation of current outcome measures as well as the acquisition and management of outcome data will be studied. Program design is discussed as it relates to effective outcomes of care. Clinical outcomes, functional outcomes, financial outcomes, and satisfaction indicators will be emphasized. Prerequisite: NURS G735

NURS G732 Population Health Management 3 crs. This course provides the student with knowledge of evidence-based approaches to achieving sustainable mitigation through population health management. Planning and preparedness practices that proactively affect the health of individuals, families, and communities are examined. Emphasis is placed on accessing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating available health options and services that promote optimum health and functional balance.

NURS G735 Advanced Research Methods 3 crs.
This course is an in-depth study of nursing research methodologies.  The focus will be on the interrelationships among theory, advanced nursing practice, and research.  Emphasis will be placed on developing skills used in critical analysis of nursing research for the purpose of determining applicability of the research to nursing practice

NURS G740 Health Care Systems 3 crs. This course is designed to enable the learner to understand the health care delivery system in the United States. Emphasis is placed on the nursing role related to formulating health care policy and political processes that have the greatest impact on health care. The course focuses on the business of health care including the internal and external environments, financing of health care, and resource management and utilization. The legislative and regulatory processes as they are related to changes in the health care system.

NURS G744 Nursing Financial Resources II 3 crs. This course explores the principles and practices of finance in health care. Emphasis is on the development of a comprehensive business plan for a health care organization.  Prerequisite/Co-requisite: NURS G712

NURS G748 Human Resource Management 3 crs. This course explores the knowledge and skills required for effective human resource management. Managerial behaviors that promote and maintain a professional health care practice environment are emphasized. Human resources management links human resources practices with organizational mission strategies, and goals. Global mobility continues to increase in the United States and employee rights, discipline and equal employment opportunities are expanding. Recruitment, retention, and turnover of nursing employees is a continuing challenge for nurses working in the field of Nursing Management and Human Resources Management

NURS G752 Health Care Systems Residency 3 crs. This course consists of 180 clock hours of practicum experience. Students engage in practicum activities pertinent to a nursing or health care management role. A preceptor-mentorship model is used, in which managers in health care organizations play a substantial role in facilitating the practicum. The practicum occurs over one semester.  $500 Practicum fee

NURS G800 Theoretical Foundations 3 crs.
This course focuses on the exploration of the nature of theory development in nursing, analysis of selected nursing and related theories, and the relevance of theory to research and practice in nursing. It is also designed to help the baccalaureate nurse transition to the role of advance nursing practice.

NURS G805 Advanced Pathophysiology 3 crs.
This course provides in-depth study of the pathophysiologic basis of disease as it affects individuals across the life cycle. Emphasis will be placed upon endogenous and exogenous factors which contribute to altered functional balance at the cellular, tissue, organ, and system levels. The course emphasizes mechanisms of disease, including cell injury, fluid and electrolyte imbalances, acid-base imbalances, and genetic defects that cause aberrations resulting inflammation and dysfunction of the immune, endocrine and cardiovascular systems. Disease states commonly encountered in primary care settings and managed by primary care practitioners will be emphasized. Prerequisite: NURS G800

NURS G810 Advanced Health Assessment 3 crs.
This course focuses on the integration of the health history, physical examination, and diagnostic evaluation to develop a model for advanced practice assessment.  Emphasis is placed on a holistic view of the person focusing on the uniqueness of the individual across the life cycle, the development of assessment skills including data analysis, and the development of diagnostic skills. Prerequisite: NURS G800/Co-requisite: NURS G812

NURS G812 Advanced Health Assessment Practicum 3 crs.
This is a clinical course that focuses on the development of advanced health assessment skills of clients throughout the lifecycle with emphasis on data analysis and differential diagnosis. This course requires 180 hours of practicum. $500 Practicum fee required. Prerequisite: NURS G800/Co-requisite: NURS G810

NURS G820 Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics 3 crs.
The purpose of this course is to assist nurse practitioner students in developing high-level clinical decision-making skills required to function in an advanced practice role. This course addresses theoretical and practical issues associated with pharmacotherapeutics. Topics discussed include mechanisms of drug action, physiologic effects, clinical pharmacokinetics and therapeutic use of selected classes of drugs used in primary care. Prerequisite: NURS G805

NURS G825 Primary Care of Pediatrics 3 crs.
This course focuses on promoting optimum health and functional balance for infants, children, and adolescents with common, acute, and chronic health problems. Prerequisite: NURS G860, NURS G850 & NURS G855/Co-requisite: NURS G830

NURS G830 Primary Care of Pediatrics Practicum 3 crs.
Clinical experiences managing infants, children, and adolescents in a primary care setting. This course requires 180 hours of practicum.

NURS G835 Advanced Research Methods 3 crs.
This course is an in-depth study of research designs and methods related to quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research. The focus is on the interrelationship among research, theory, and advanced nursing practice. Emphasis will be placed on the critical analysis of research to determine its application to advanced nursing practice. Research which focuses on nursing interventions, evidence-based practice guidelines, cost effectiveness, and health outcomes will be examined. Prerequisite: NURS G800

NURS G840 Primary Care of Adults 3 crs. This course focuses on promoting optimum health and functional balance for the young adult through the older adult client with common, acute, and chronic health problems. Prerequisite: NURS G805, NURS G810 & NURS G812/Co-requisite: NURS G820 & NURS G845

NURS G845 Primary Care of Adults Practicum 3 crs.
Clinical experience managing adults of all ages in a variety of primary care settings. This course requires 180 hours of practicum.  $500 practicum fee required. Prerequisite: NURS G805, NURS G810 & NURS G812/Co-requisite: NURS G820 & NURS G850

NURS G850 Primary Care of Adults & Women’s Health 3 crs.
This course is a continuation of N840. It focuses on promoting optimum health and functional balance for the adult client and expectant women with common, acute, and chronic health problems. Prerequisite: NURS G820, NURS G840 & NURS G845/Co-requisite: NURS G860 & NURS G855

NURS G855 Primary Care of Adults & Women’s Health Practicum 3 crs.

NURS G860 Gerontology in Primary Care 3crs.
The intent of this course is to provide Nurse Practitioner (NP) students with the requisite knowledge and skills to integrate holistic, high-quality, safe, and developmentally appropriate principles into the primary care of older adults, including the frail elderly.  The course is designed to enhance the NP student’s ability to implement the best evidence-based practice requirements inherent in meeting the primary care needs of an aging and older population. Prerequisite: NURS G805, NURS G810 & NURS G812/Co-requisite: NURS G840 & NURS G845

NURS G894 Advanced Statistics and Data Management 3 crs.
This course includes an introduction to measurement concepts and theory, data management, and statistical analysis ranging from descriptive to inferential statistics.  The emphasis is on practical application, through understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics, and data management overall. Commonly used data management and analytic software will be utilized.

NURS G900 Philosophy of Science 3 crs.
This course systematically analyzes epistemological and meta-theoretical perspectives in the philosophy of science and the implications for knowledge development in nursing science. Prerequisite: NURS G800(PB)

NURS G905 Ethics & Social Justice 3 crs.
This course examines the nature and practice of biomedical, administrative/organizational, and population ethics with an emphasis on the application of ethical and social justice frameworks for analysis and decision making by providers, patients, systems and populations experiencing ethical conundrums. A conceptual analysis of social justice in health care allows the student to seek ethically defensible solutions at these levels to health care dilemmas. Prerequisite: NURS G800(PB)

NURS G910 Epidemiology 3 crs.
In this course the concepts, language and principles of epidemiology will be explored. Emphasis is on description, and interpretation of modes of transmission of diseases. Students will gain knowledge critical to understanding the natural history of diseases, the evaluation of preventive interventions, and relevance of epidemiological methods in advanced nursing practice. Prerequisite: NURS G800(PB)

NURS G915 Evidence-Based Practice, Research Translation & Implementation Science 3 crs.
This course explores the science of research translation. Emphasis is on analysis, evaluation and use of evidence-based practice models. Exploration will include examining the methods and to promote the systematic uptake of science into routine practice to improve the quality and effectiveness of health care by providers and organizations. Prerequisite: NURS G835 & NURS G805(PB)/Co-requisite: NURS G920

NURS G920 Biostatistics 3 crs.
This course provides the basics of statistical analysis, measurement theory and data management. Focus includes the application of statistics to healthcare settings. Emphasis is placed on creation of data collection spreadsheets in Excel, selection of appropriate tests, data analysis using SPSS, and appropriate dissemination of results. Prerequisite: NURS G835 (PB)

NURS G925 Program Planning, Evaluation, & Quality Management 3 crs.
This course provides students with the tools to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based clinical and administrative programs in nursing and health care delivery systems. Emphasis is on the synthesis of evidence for evaluating program planning frameworks, strategic implementation, and program evaluation to improve healthcare outcomes. Prerequisite: NURS G915

NURS G930 DNP Advanced Practicum I 3 crs.
This course integrates the use of evidence-based practice in the evaluation of nursing phenomenon in an existing system. Students will complete 180 practice hours. $500 practicum fee is required. Prerequisite: NURS G915 & NURS G920/Co-requisite: NURS G925

NURS G935 Leadership of Systems Change & Innovation 3 crs.
This course analyzes theory and research on intrapersonal, interpersonal and organizational leadership for application in leading change and innovation in a global health care market. Systems leadership and organizational behavior concepts are also reviewed as they relate to leadership. Implications for inter-professional team leadership, sustainability, legacy development, and renewal are emphasized. $500 practicum fee is required.

NURS G945 DNP Advanced Practicum II 3 crs.
This course utilizes the outcomes analysis generated in the DNP Advanced Practicum I to implement a program intervention, which remediates the clinical phenomenon. The student will complete 180 practice hours. $500 practicum fee is required. Prerequisite: NURS G930

NURS G950 Prescribed NP Elective: Integrating Behavioral Health in Primary Care 3 crs.
This course is designed for the exploration of systems of care related to behavioral health and the acquisition of primary care behavioral health competencies and characteristics necessary for reengineering the integration of behavioral health in primary care systems. Prerequisite: NURS G825 & NURS G830(PB)

NURS G954 Prescribed EL Elective: Organizational Behavior 3 crs
This course is designed for the investigation and analysis of theories related to healthy, efficient, and productive organizational behavior in the health care setting; and to evaluate and integrate evidence based practice to effect improvements in the dynamics of the work environment to improve the delivery of health care. Emphasis is placed on using research to analyze the environment and to improve systems at the micro, meso, and macro systems levels. There is a 60-hour practicum associated with this course.

NURS G955 Informatics & Finance 3 crs.
This course examines the essential knowledge needed to understand information systems and technologies that are transforming health care. The student gains the ability to improve information literacy acquisition skills, critique informatics program proposals, understand the role of the informatics specialist in managing health care information for decision-making and program planning, and analyze the utility and functionality of technology. Students will explore financial and business principles, as sources of information, which are used to make health care decisions.

NURS G960 DNP Capstone Project 3 crs.
 This course allows the student to complete evaluation of the program intervention completed in Advanced Practicum II. The capstone project will require the student to synthesize and apply the competencies in the program to improve outcomes in health care systems. The student will complete 180 practice hours. $500 practicum fee is required. Prerequisite: NURS G945

NURS G965 DNP Practicum 2 crs.
This course consists of 180 clock hours of practicum experience. Students engage in practicum activities pertinent to a nursing or health care management role. A preceptor-mentorship model is used in which managers in health care organizations play a substantial role in facilitating the practicum. This course is designed for Doctor of Nursing practice students in the Executive Leadership track to fulfill their practicum hour requirements.
